Symphony Brass

I think the sounds from the low end of the brass makes it worth the buy. Needs a little improvement on the higher end like horns and trumpets but overall pretty good.

I really wanted this pack to work, because the sounds in it are gorgeous. But it doesn’t work. Dynamics are all over the place and you can’t get rid of the reverb, both no matter what you adjust in score/EQ. Articulations do nothing, and I tried. 2/10

First of all, the sound quality is leagues ahead of MuseScore – it’s simply amazing! However, there are quite a few bugs that need addressing. Standard quarter notes without articulation are played far too short, as if they were staccato. When a tenuto line is added, the sounds become overly aggressive, blasting out like a Formula 1 car and practically damaging the listening experience. Moreover, the trumpets and solo horn feel too thin in tone. At FFF dynamics, the volume, especially for the solo horn, is underwhelming and doesn’t deliver the power you’d expect. These issues represent about 30% of the overall problems I’ve noticed. Considering the reputation of a brand like Spitfire and the price point of their products, this is quite disappointing. Conclusion: While the sound itself is fantastic, updates are urgently needed, particularly in the articulation department.

Musescore's free Muse Brass samples sound better than this and have no random reverb bugs, hope I can get my money back.

There are consistently issues with all instruments in this pack where each note will randomly echo, be delayed, articulate differently, are jump volumes note to note to an extreme degree. The base sounds are good, even great, but the inconsistency from note to note makes this pack unusable, no matter the dynamic, sound flag used, or written articulation, the sounds are just random most of the time.

Once again, Berlin sounds better. Not as bad as the other packs though.

Though spitfire's samples are one of my go-to's when scoring in DAW, they do not live up to expectations in the context of MuseScore's playback engine. The horns in particular are utterly unusable in all contexts, holding over notes when playing staccato and marcato alike and all around sounding artificial even when playing legato. Articulation as a whole needs substantial refinement on the part of Spitfire before I can recommend usage of this library over the built in and FREE musesounds library.

The actual samples are amazing. Very rich and brassy with natural reverb. However, there are some bugs that hinder the expiriance: Horns a6 is very quiet and sounds unatural when switching between notes. This library has picked up some bugs that exist in the free musesounds, stuff like accents or staccatos being too loud compared to the notes around them. Once these bugs are fixed this will be fantastic!
